A Two-Day Immersive Gathering
There are moments in this work that every birth servant must cross eventually. The room shifts. The atmosphere changes. Knowledge alone will not serve you, or more importantly the family before you. .
Your hands must know what to do — and your presence must hold steady.
Threshold is where you prepare for those moments.
Not a lecture. Not a checklist.
A held space for holy wild women.
This is a two day embodied, immersive skills workshop — the kind that lives not in your notes but in your body. We will work through complex birth scenarios with our hands, our voices, our full presence. Treating the models like real people, lest you treat the families you serve like the models you practiced on. We will move through simulations together, then teach into what surfaced — what felt unclear, what needs strengthening, what was never learned prior.
The Threshold simulation is not a performance space. There are no grades. Nobody is judging you. In fact our philopshy is to fail fast so you can fail forward. This is the safe place to try, miss, learn from it, then embody that lesson — because that is how real skill is formed.

We will also hold space for the stories we carry — the moments replaying in the memory. The trauma locked in the body. The emotions we buried alive in order to keep moving. The questions that need to be asked even if there is no clear answer. Authentic simulation will uncover the stories that need to be heard. When that occurs will hold space for you so you can continue to hold space well for the women you are called to serve.
Two days. One gathering. A circle of women.
We begin together, with prayer and authentic sharing. We do not rush past the beginning. We enter with intention. Sharing our hopes, fears, and expectations. Threshold is built for the women in the room. So we can only move forward when your needs and desires are clear.
From there we move into a brief Threshold simulation before any teaching. What surfaces shapes what we teach into. We desire to be responsive not pre-scripted.
There will be space for questions and honest conversation. The safe space for of vulnerability you offer to women, we offer to you.
The second day we dive into immersive Threshold simulations. We work through the randomized senarios. Some complex. Some normal. We shape our responses and we practice critical thinking in real time.
We will also make room for the body. A nourishing shared meal. Space to move, to release, to reset. Moments of joy, laughter and even dancing to shake off the heavy.
No fixed outcomes. No performance. No skills hazing or horizontal violence. Only practice, response, and refinement.

Sending Forth
We will wrap up together the same way we began, now as women who have stepped more fully into their calling. We will name what we are now carrying and send one another out with prayer and connection with women who know the weight of the call and the miraculous joy it is to carry it.
Lauren facilitated such a safe, connected, sisterly learning space. Embodied practice. Space to acknowledge and process triggers, fears, and hesitancies and to ask questions. And it feels great to have practiced with my hands what my head already knew about shoulder dystocia, breech, hemorrhage and newborn transition, to face my resistance to learning cervical exams (then push through that to actually learn it). Plus to pick up tips and tricks from one another on how to speak to women and babies, and tools to add to my birth bag, etc. Tears were shed, anger was expressed (over injustices and abuses we’ve encountered), and we laughed so much.

This isn’t your ordinary workshop. There is a place for learning techniques and diving into practical, actionable parts of birth work, for sure. But what stood out most was the intentional, prayerful, yet beautifully unforced space for introspection. I found a safe haven where my own broken pieces could surface and be met with compassion. I found healing here. I definitely left a better birth worker for sure, but I didn’t expect to leave a more surrendered and whole disciple of Jesus. It was a truly sacred experience, clearly led by the Lord and facilitated by people who know Him intimately.— Jessica R.
This may bring things to the surface. That is not something to avoid.
Because Threshold is embodied and real, it may surface past birth experiences — moments of hesitation, places that still hold grief, situations that ended in a way you have not yet fully made peace with. Simulation has a way of reaching into the body's memory before the mind is ready.
We do not sidestep that. We hold it carefully together.
You will never be shamed here. You will never be rushed past what is real. The woman always matters more than the simulation.
You are allowed to pause. You are allowed to feel what surfaces. And you will be guided by women who understand that skill formation and care for the soul should not be separated.
This is an intimate space, not an open enrollment.
Threshold is currently offered to current students and alumni of Hearthmother Journey, and to those personally invited into this space by Lauren or Brooke.
